Operation Vacation Prep

I'm very much looking forward to trading in my city wardrobe for resort wear as we're off to celebrate the last week of summer on the Carolina coast!

Can't wait to share our beach adventure with you ... until then, Yours Truly has a few more chores to do before we depart!

xx

Blue Skies

This recent vintage find came straight from the 80's - complete with shoulder pads! However, stylist Amy and I had way too much fun having an excuse to pull out this South African beaded collar and vintage mother of pearl belt to go with it. We're always redefining the vintage that lives in my closet - a little old, a little new. After all, go bold or go home, right?!

Wishing you a fantastic weekend full of nothing but blue skies ...

High Flying Flagg

I discovered this Edith Flagg dress while on one of my first vintage shopping adventures in Brooklyn - finding a dress so special set quite a precedent for everything since! There is nothing subtle or understated about it, which is one of the main reasons I completely adore it.

The same may be said for the woman who designed it. The Romanian-born fashion designer launched her business in 1956 in California, and was the first person to import polyester in mass quantities to the United States. She is a Holocaust survivor, speaks multiple languages, and is a philanthropist - not to mention her legacy is still going strong at the age of 93!

To say I'm proud to wear this piece is nothing short of an understatement. I only hope to glean a mere ounce of Ms. Flagg's chutzpah when I wear her handiwork ... and hope I am still actively giving back to my community when I'm 93!

Delicious City Prints

I just discovered these Delicious City Prints by Roni Lagin, and I must admit I wish I had enough wall space in our Brooklyn apartment to display them all! The series highlights several cities both here in the US and abroad:

Considering our family vacation to the Carolina coast is a mere week away, I must admit this poster has me all the more enticed ... I'm considering it a culinary preview!

Check out all the cities represented here.

Prelude to Fall

It may not be Fall quite yet ... but my color palette is already thinking along those lines! Stylist Amy & I are extremely ready to embrace Fall florals, oxblood red and my closet of capes. But until then, the weekend allowed us to - at the very least - allude to the impending season:

A Friday Affair

As fair skinned as I am, I have often run away from wearing anything white. Stylist Amy has really helped incorporate specific white pieces in my wardrobe and added definition in other ways. In today's case, by belting this silk kimono cardigan from Anthropologie over this vintage linen dress:

Mother, May I?

I recently found this sheer poncho in my mother's closet and had to bring it home! Evidently, one is never too old to play dress up in her mother's clothing! Stylist Amy got wind of it while going through my closet over the weekend and said, "Ummmmm. Where did you get this?" Let's just say she stopped everything to create this look:

Ebates

I was first introduced to Ebates by my sister-in-law, Mary. She brought it to my attention when we were living in a newly developed neighborhood, with many of our favorite retailers a good many miles away. Online shopping made life easier, and when Mary said I could actually get a rebate check for shopping online, I was intrigued, "How am I going to get paid to shop?"

The answer is actually quite simple:

Ebates receives a commission every time you shop from any of the 1500+ retailers they host on their website. Instead of pocketing that commission, they give it back to you. It is absolutely free, and four times a year, Ebates will either mail you a "Big Fat Check," transfer any money you've made to your PayPal account, or send the money to your favorite charity!

Here's how it works:

1. Join!

It takes only a minute or two, and you're automatically going to get a thank you gift sent to your account, either in the form of cash, or a gift card - it's your choice when you sign up.

2. Browse!

Peruse from a list of over 1500+ online retailers - some of my favorites are Target, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, The Children's Place and Drugstore.com! The list is endless ... and you won't believe how many options you have.

3. Shop!

When you're ready to shop, you click on your retailer of choice and Ebates will send you directly to the retailer's website. You'll shop, complete your purchase, and Ebates will make a record of it in your Ebates account within a day or so.

4. Get Cash Back!

Typically you'll receive 3-5% back of your total purchase. The great news is that Ebates offers Daily Doubles, and also keeps track of the retailer's best online coupons, too. So not only are you saving money, you're making cash back as well!

Ready to try it for yourself? Then take a trip over to Ebates now.

I can't wait to hear how much you love it!

Updated Classic

My personal style aesthetic is rooted in a desire to pair pieces together that I absolutely love - typically a variation on a classic look, but with the volume turned up. More often than not, stylist Amy creates looks with pieces spanning several decades, yet when pulled together, feel nothing but fresh and new.

In this case, we took this 80's vintage dress, paired it with an even older vintage leather belt ... and completed the look with my newest handbag: this utterly gorgeous medium Candace Carryall from the Coach Legacy collection. It will come as no surprise that my affinity for the Legacy collection is in part due to the fact that it is "classic, yet completely new."

Music to my ears!

White Light

In order to really accentuate this divine vintage blouse, stylist Amy had me trade in my standard dark wash denim for these fabulous white skinny jeans from C. Wonder. And just like the magic of color against a blank canvas, everything immediately came to life:

A Little Escape

As stylist Amy & I continue to celebrate prints this week (and always), I find this tailored, vintage-take on a gypsy skirt positively refreshing:
